Fun With Food Storage
January 5, 2009 by Scott in Family, Food, Friends & Neighbors, House Stuff, Religious
I follow several blogs and other online resources that focus on food storage and emergency preparedness. Several local Utahn’s launched Fun With Food Storage (FunWithFoodStorage.net) today. The site will provide information about how to get and use your food storage in your everyday cooking. They’re having a great give away contest and I thought I’d pass on the info to our family and friends. Enjoy!

Remember Christ this Christmas
December 22, 2008 by Scott in Religious
One of my friends shared this video on Facebook and I had to share it with all of my family and friends. The music is Oh Holy Night as performed by Kenneth Cope and the artwork is by Liz Lemon Swindle. May we all remember Christ this Christmas season and reflect upon His birth, life, ministry, Atonement, sacrifice and Resurrection. You may need a tissue for this one.
Straw for a Diaper Change
December 19, 2008 by Heidi in Family, Religious
Every Christmas Eve my parents read a story to the grandkids and then give each of the children a copy of the book. Last year they shared the story The Last Straw. Then they gave each of us a “manger” and some “straw.” On Monday we read the story to Ben during FHE and we talked about being kind so that we could make a soft bed for the baby Jesus. So Ben is now obsessed about earning straws for Jesus’ bed. Last night when I got home from Parent Teacher Conferences we started talking about his day and gave him the straws he earned. All of the sudden he looks at me and says, “Mom, Dad needs a straw!!” I said, “why does dad need a straw.” He said, “Dad changed Tyler’s poopie diaper and it was yucky. It was nice of Daddy to change it.” So I gave Scott a straw to put in the “manger.” How funny that a 3 year old sees that dealing with poop as being kind :)!
May We All Remember Elder Wirthlin’s Great Testimony
December 2, 2008 by Scott in Religious
Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles passed away last night at the age of 91. I will miss his sweet sense of humor and the power of his testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I am sure he has now looked into our Savior’s loving eyes and has been reunited with his loving wife. God be with you ’til we meet again, Elder Wirthlin.
Here is a video of Elder Wirthlin bearing his testimony of our Savior. Read the rest of this entry »
A Day of Unfortunate Events - AKA A Crappy Day
November 21, 2008 by Scott in Family, Religious
Yesterday will go down in mine and Heidi’s history book as one of our crappiest days ever.
My Dad
Just before our alarm clock went off, the phone rang. It was my older sister, Kristy. She had a hard time keeping the tears back as she told me that my dad was in the Emergency Room at the hospital because he might have had a heart attack. We just couldn’t believe it. We were so worried for him. We got ready and got the boys ready and I took the boys to their babysitter’s house.
As I pulled up to the house, Kristy called again and said that they were unsure if it was a heart attack or not, so they were going to repeat the tests to make sure. My dad called while I was on the phone with my sister and I tried to answer, but it had already gone to my voicemail. So, I took the boys inside and then listened to the voice message my dad left while I drove to work. He sounded good and optimistic that it wasn’t as bad of a problem as they originally thought. He instant messaged me when I logged on at work and said that it was a high blood pressure issue and that he was going to his doctor that day to get tests and some prescriptions.
So, it didn’t turn out to be a heart attack, but was still scary for us. Read the rest of this entry »
Elder Maxwell Comments On Proposition 8… 30 Years Ago
November 12, 2008 by Scott in Political, Religious
I read a blog post today at TempleStudy.com that highlights a talk by Elder Neal A. Maxwell which he gave at a BYU devotional on October 10, 1978, entitled “Meeting the Challenges of Today.” Some of the things he said are especially relevant “today,” particularly in the midst of all the turmoil over Proposition 8. Here is some of his talk with the most prophetic parts in bold:
A Witness and a Warning - Ezra Taft Benson
November 3, 2008 by Scott in Political, Religious
I read some additional information related to Ezra Taft Benson’s speech that I wrote about a few days ago that I want to share. Thanks to Rob Watson at “American Testament: The Book of Mormon” for sharing this talk and info on that blog.
My previous post is “A Prophet of God Warning Us About Socialism.” What does this have to do with the Book of Mormon? Just about everything.
A Prophet of God Warning Us About Socialism
October 29, 2008 by Scott in Political, Religious
This talk was given by Ezra Taft Benson in 1977. Then a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles then later becoming Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he warns us of socialism sneaking into our government. He warns about redistribution of wealth and socializing health care. He warns that “they pull down what is above and they never raise what is below.” “You are not here to be a parasite or a freeloader. The price you pay for something for nothing may be more than you can afford.” It is broken up into two parts. Read the rest of this entry »
