October Daring Bakers Challenge
October 29, 2008 by Heidi in Food, House Stuff
This month’s challenge was a lot of fun. It was hosted by Rosa (http://www.rosas-yummy-yums.blogspot.com ). She was supposed to do her hosting with Sherry who suddenly passed away of a heart attack.
“Prior to her sudden death (9 days before), Sher had shared with me her recipe idea for the October challenge that she, Glenna and myself should have hosted together. When she died, it was clear for me that I would respect her choice and that I would still submit her recipe. This is my last ode to a very appreciated blogger, DB member, skilled baker and cook whom I miss a lot!
For this challenge I chose an easy to follow recipe for “Pizza Napoletana” from Peter Reinhart’s “The Bread Baker’s Apprentice” which yields a beautifully tasty, thin, crispy, yet chewy pizza crust.”
It meant a lot to do this recipe. The focus was on being able to toss the dough, so that’s why there is such a fun picture. Scott had a hard time getting the picture (this is the best we got.)
A Prophet of God Warning Us About Socialism
October 29, 2008 by Scott in Political, Religious
This talk was given by Ezra Taft Benson in 1977. Then a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles then later becoming Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he warns us of socialism sneaking into our government. He warns about redistribution of wealth and socializing health care. He warns that “they pull down what is above and they never raise what is below.” “You are not here to be a parasite or a freeloader. The price you pay for something for nothing may be more than you can afford.” It is broken up into two parts. Read the rest of this entry »
Trick-or-Treating
October 28, 2008 by Heidi in Family
Spanish Fork City had Main Street trick-or-treating on Saturday. We decided that it would be fun to take Ben and Tyler so that on Halloween they would have some idea of what they were doing. We started walking up the street telling Ben to say “trick-or-treat” and then “thank you.” Tyler was just happy to be outside being pushed in his stroller. A few stores into the street Ben turns to Scott and says, “Dad, this trick-or-treating is great. They just give me candy.” It was so funny. I took a couple of pictures of them in their costumes. I’ll have more on Halloween, but here is a fun look at what they will be.
Baby Update
October 28, 2008 by Heidi in Family
Just wanted to give you a quick update. I went to the dr. today and everything is looking great with the baby. My blood pressure was still really low for me. We got back the gestational diabetes test and everything looked normal. So we have about 12 more weeks of waiting and then we will start our adventure with having a girl (and her hair) and two older brothers!! Thank you so much for your prayers.
Vote Against a Liberal, Democrat Controlled Government
October 27, 2008 by Scott in Political
In my previous post I focused on an important issue that has been on my mind during the past few months. I’d like to now focus this post on the Presidential and other elections which also have monopolized much of my thoughts lately.
In one week “We the People” of the United States of America will have another opportunity to vote for those leaders who will guide our country for the next several years. We have been bombarded with advertisements, news stories, phone calls, emails, online discussions, etc., and many Americans are sick of it and have just decided to stop tuning in and listening. Many Americans know that what they watch on their evening news is a load of crap; a biased, liberalistic reporting of the day’s news. There are, though, still a few sources that provide the other side of the story, however, the problem is most American’s don’t tune in to those sources. This presents the problem that the majority of our neighbors, friends and family are less informed about what we have at risk this election year.
What’s at Risk?
What we are facing this November 4th is the likelihood that our Senate and House of Representatives will be controlled by the Democrats and our President will be Barrack Obama, the most liberal Democratic Senator ever to be elected to that office. With the executive and legislative branches of government being run by these liberal Democrats and several seats in the judicial branch being vacated in the near future that will be filled with judges who Obama will appoint, the government will have total control to pass any and all laws that they want. Do you agree with their stances on abortion? On taxes? On cutting military spending by 25%? On creating a government-run health care system? On increasing spending even more than the government is spending by taxing “rich” people? There needs to be “checks and balances” in place to stop this from happening.
I Support Proposition 8
October 24, 2008 by Scott in Family, Friends & Neighbors, Political, Religious
I never thought of myself as a political person before. I read about the candidates and the issues of each election, but I never actively voiced my thoughts and feelings about them. This year has been very different. There are several issues on the ballots this year that I really feel strongly about that have made me become more politically minded and opinionated. These issues will effect me, my family and my religion directly. I’d like to address one of those issues in this post. Proposition 8 in California.
Pictures
October 21, 2008 by Heidi in Family
It’s that time of year for us again. We needed to get Ben’s 3 year pictures and Tyler’s 1 year pictures. We also decided to get a few pictures of me being pregnant because the only other picture we have is the day before I delivered Ben and needless to say I’m not the happiest/cutest looking in that picture. Helen posted about her friend Natalie that was coming up to take some photos so we set up an appointment. She was so great with the boys and understood that to get pictures of little kids you just have to take a lot as fast as you can before they decide that they are done. She put a few pictures on her blog while she edits all of the rest of them. So here is a sneak peek. I’ll post more when we get them.
McCain and Obama, the Comedians
October 17, 2008 by Scott in Humor, Political
It is refreshing to see that the Presidential Candidates are able to be humorous with one another. If this was a debate, McCain wins hands down.
