Tyler’s 1st Birthday Party

We had Tyler’s 1st Birthday Party on Sunday. It was fun to have some of our family and friends at our house to celebrate this special day with us. Tyler had fun opening the presents and eating his cake. His favorite thing to play with was the box that his coat came in. :)

September Daring Baker

September Challenge - Lavash Crackers & Toppings

This month we are making Daring Bakers history as our September challenge is vegan and/or gluten free. For the first time ever, the torch has been passed to « Alternative » Daring Bakers : Natalie from Gluten A Go Go, and co-host Shel, of Musings From the Fishbowl. We wanted to make something savory this month, and we chose the recipe for Lavash Crackers from Peter Reinhart’s The Bread Baker’s Apprentice (pp 178 - 180).

After a crazy month I realized that I was supposed to post today.  So I’ve had a crazy day of baking (I bought the stuff to make the toppings at the beginning of the month).  The Lavash was a hit with my boys.  They loved it.  It was a great dough and I’m going to try making pizza with Ben another day this week.

Tyler Turns 1

Today is Tyler’s first birthday! It’s amazing how fast this year has flow by. He has been such a blessing in our lives and such a fun addition to our family. Tyler had a rough start in life being born 3 weeks early. He just was ready to come and didn’t want to be inside his mommy any longer. And we’re so happy he came. :)  I just wanted to take a minute and recap his first year.

Tummies

We have had an interesting week regarding tummies around here.  On Saturday I started thinking that Tyler was almost one and that we were going to need to have him try whole milk and start the transition from formula to milk.  Now I know that he has had allergic reactions to the milk formula in the past, but thought (because the dr. had said) that he would have grown out of it by now.  Well I gave him a bottle with 6 ozs. of formula and 2ozs. of milk.  He only drank about 1/2 the bottle so I thought that this would be a good test.  Everything seemed to be okay.  We went over to our friends house that night and he was fine, but because we were there when he had his next bottle we didn’t add any milk.  Well Sunday morning Tyler had a little bit of diarrhea, but we headed to church.  Well, when we got home from church the fun really started!  I sat down to feed Tyler and he made his pooping face.  So I just waited for him to finish.  I look down and there is poop running out of his shorts down his leg.  It took both Scott and I to get him upstairs without getting poop on ourselves.  We clean him up and then put him in that bathtub.  A little while later we were going to go see my parents.  I picked Tyler up and all of the sudden he projectile vomitted all over me.  (How I didn’t throw up with either event is beyond us!)  We went upstair and just walked right into the shower with our clothes on.  Needless to say we stayed home for the rest of the night.  I kept telling Scott that it was the yuckiest day of being a mom yet.  So poor Tyler didn’t have a solid poop until today.  He acts like he feels fine (we just won’t be feeding him milk products anytime soon.)

Ben and his tummy are a completely different story.  Last week he started telling me that his tummy was thirsty or his tummy was hungry for dinner.  On Tuesday of this week he came up to me and grabbed my face and told me that his tummy was hungry for scones.  Then on Wednesday he grabbed my face and told me that his tummy was hungry for scones again.  I told him that we already had scones so he went back to playing and a few minutes later he came and told me that his tummy was hungry for syrup.  I said, “so you’re hungry for syrup?”  He said, “no, I’m not hungry for syrup, my tummy is hungry for syrup.”

IT’S A GIRL!

We went and had our ultra sound today and found out that we are having a little girl!!  Here are some pictures of her.  She really wasn’t in the mood to get her picture taken except to show us that she was a girl (obviously she doesn’t want to be dressed in her big brother’s hand me downs.)  She is healthy and has everything she should and it’s where it’s supposed to be.
