Fishing
June 29, 2008 by Heidi in Family
A few weeks ago my sister Holly posted on her blog about some amazing fishing that she had done at a lake near her house. Ben got this idea in his head that in order for him to catch a fish he had to do it with his Aunt Holly and Uncle Kasey. Now this isn’t the best time of year to try and find a weekend to go to Kemmerer because it is band season and the weekends are busy, but we looked at the calendar and found that we had this weekend open. So I told Ben we could go up. All I heard about for weeks is, “My Aunt Holly and Uncle Kasey are going to get me a BIG fish.” With expectations high we set off for Kemmerer. The night before we went fishing Scott, Kasey, and Ben went worm hunting.
We couldn’t get Ben to sleep that night he was so excited. Then he woke up at 1 AM wanting to go and woke Tyler up. Then he woke up at 6:30 AM because the sun was up and that means that he needed to be fishing. We got everyone all ready and set off. Kasey was a little nervous because he had talked up the difference between “Utah Fish” and “Wyoming Fish” and I think he was afraid that Ben wouldn’t get his first fish. When we got to the lake we got all set up.
It was fun to watch Ben fishing. All he wanted to do was cast and reel in. We put a bobber on his line so that he could watch it and told him that he had to wait until the bobber moved across the lake a little way. After about an hour we had no bites and Kasey was really getting nervous because we started giving him a hard time about his “Wyoming fish.” So he decided that we should move to the “Tub.” You can imagine my reaction when we pulled up and saw this:
I thought that they had lost their minds. What kind of fish is going to survive a fall like that? Well I was wrong. We were there for about 10 minutes when it finally happened. Scott had taken Ben’s pole and Kasey was working and they both caught fish at the same time. Holly took Ben over to Scott and they reeled in his first fish.
He was so excited!! It was so much fun to watch. Ben thought that it was amazing. So we were good, but Kasey wanted to get a “Wyoming fish.” So for another hour he kept trying to catch a fish, but Ben thought his fish was “SO BIG.” While we were waiting for Kasey Holly and Ben got in a water fight and we took some fun pictures.
We ate lunch and then we went to Holly and Kasey’s and packed up and went home. (Everyone but Scott fell asleep and he made it home in 2 1/2 hours!!) It was such a fun visit with Holly and Kasey. It’s wonderful to have family that loves your kids and wants the best for them almost as much as you do.
The Band

So Scott had a band gig for Lehi City on Wednesday night. It was a lot of fun!! A reporter from the Deseret News was there and wrote a very nice article.

(When you’re done reading it just know that Scott had the boys because I had a class that he knew about before he said that he would do the gig. I got there in plenty of time to watch the boys for the concert.)
June Daring Baker’s Challenge
June 29, 2008 by Heidi in Food, House Stuff
This month was my first Daring Baker’s Challenge. The project was a Danish Braid and was hosted by Kelly of Sass & Veracity, and Ben of What’s Cookin’?. The recipe is called “Danish Braid” from Sherry Yard’s The Secrets of Baking. The recipe calls for Apple filling, but we could use what we wanted. I made two: one with strawberry and sweetened cream cheese and the other one with chocolate and sweetened cream cheese. (I actually made them twice because I didn’t like how the first ones looked.)
Tyler Crawled
June 15, 2008 by Heidi in Family
We have some exciting news. Tyler officially crawled yesterday for the first time. He had been moving around “crawling” backwards for a week or two, but yesterday he figured out how to go forward! (I’ve learned with Tyler that he is going to do things when he feels like he wants to, not when I want him too.) We are so excited to have him moving around and trying to keep up with his brother.
Ben’s Potty Training
June 15, 2008 by Heidi in Family
This week we took away Ben’s pull-ups, so he is wearing big boy underwear. For a reward for staying dry Scott found this fun blow-up pool. He earned it and wouldn’t you know it was the day that the high was 60. So we blew it up and let Ben play with it in the house. The next morning I filled it with water and told Ben after his nap he could go and get in. He woke up running upstairs to get his swimsuit and his dad. They got all ready and stayed out for a total of 5 minutes. (Scott said the water was really cold.)
The next day Scott. Ben, and Tyler went outside to play. Scott splashed Ben a little with the water and Ben thought it was the funniest thing ever. So Ben splashed Scott back. I went out to check on them and next thing I know I was getting splashed. Well, anyone that knows me knows I love a good water fight. By the time we were done with our splashing we were wet enough that we ended up just sitting and playing in the pool with Ben telling us that his mom and dad are crazy.
Pregnant

For those who look at our blog and haven’t dared to say anything because you know of our baby history, but saw the widget of the baby floating around, we are expecting a baby. It was a bit of a surprise that it happened so fast, but we definetly wanted to have another baby. So yep, we’ll have a 3 year old, a 16 month old, and a brand new baby. We feel very blessed to have the opportunity to have this baby and to not have to fight to get it here like we did with our boys!
Camping with Ben
June 14, 2008 by Scott in Family
A couple of weeks ago Ben and I went camping with my dad, Grandpa Ron, for his ward’s father and son’s camp out. I was hesitant, but I thought, “how hard could it be with my dad there helping me with Ben?” It was up Spanish Fork Canyon at Bennion Park. We got there a little later in the evening, so we had missed the dinner, but we set up the tent and sleeping bags and went to the program that they had prepared. Ben was fascinated with his flashlights and I had a hard time keeping him from shining them into other people’s faces. I don’t think he listened to any of the speakers. He was so excited to get to sleep in the tent in his sleeping bag. We went through our bedtime routine and sang songs (Life is a Highway, I Am a Child of God, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, etc.) and read a book (The Tooth Book by Dr. Seuss), but he was too excited to go to sleep. My dad left the tent to go hang out at Rick’s trailer. Ben and I talked and played with his flashlights some more until he was finally sleepy enough to fall asleep. I was so worried that Ben would get too cold that I slept really lightly so that I could make sure that he kept his blankets on him. When we woke up in the morning I asked him if he got cold that night and he said, “no, I was really hot, Daddy.” We ate breakfast with a bunch of the guys from my dad’s ward, then we hung out at the lake and river for a little while and played in the dirt with Ben’s digging toys. We packed up and went home.
Ben really enjoyed that camping trip and has been asking me for the past couple of weeks if we could go camping again. So, last night (Friday the 13th), I set up the tent and sleeping bags in the backyard and we went camping in our backyard. Ben had a blast. He really does well sleeping in tents, so I may venture into a real campground again sometime soon.
Ben’s Prayers
June 14, 2008 by Scott in Family, Religious
We’ve been working with Ben ever since he’s been able to talk well enough for us to understand him on praying. He always wants to say the prayer at dinner time and we pray with him before we tuck him in at night. Sometimes he says the funniest things. He got into the habit for a few days of just asking Heavenly Father to bless things, you know, “the food”, “this family”, “Mommy, Daddy, Tyler and the baby in Mommy’s tummy”, etc., so I told him that he needed to make sure that he said that he was thankful for things. Well, when he prayed that night, he sure did say, “Thank you for things.” Heidi and I had a hard time not laughing out loud. Tonight at dinner he said, “Thank you for… him.” and pointed at me. Again, we had to suppress the urge to laugh out loud. And again tonight at bedtime he said, “Thank you for my snowflake blanket.” So, I think he’s learning, but who knows what other things he will be thankful for that will make us laugh.
