Christmas Eve
December 27, 2007 by Heidi in Family
When we finally got to my mom and dad’s we had a yummy dinner. Then my mom told her story for the year which was called, “The Last Straw.” She and my dad had gotten us “mangers” and “straw” for us to be able to use next December with our kids. Then we got our pajama’s. It was a great night because my Grandma Gloria was there (this is her first trip meeting Tyler) and we were able to get some pictures of her and Tyler together. Then we hurried home so that Santa could come to Ben’s house.
Christmas Eve Adventure
December 27, 2007 by Heidi in Family
We love that we live so close to both of our parents because that means that on holidays we can spend time with each family. On Christmas Eve we go to Scott’s parents for about an hour and spend time with his mom, dad, and sister. Then we go to my mom’s house for dinner. Well, this year it started to snow right before we left to go to the Dimmick’s. For those of you who don’t know, the Dimmick’s live at the top of mountain. When it is snowing it is definitely a 4 wheel drive trip. So, on our way up we keep getting slowed down by these idiots that were trying to make it up in a 2 wheel drive car and getting stuck or sliding back down the mountain. We finally made it up to visit. When it was time to leave we packed up the boys and got in the SUV. We were doing just fine until we came upon a bunch of cars that were just stopped in the road (on the decline). We got stopped and Scott and I traded places so that he could go and see what was happening. When he got back we traded places again. The guys who were helping the people with their cars said that they jut had to pull this 12 person van out of the way and then people would be able to move again. Well, in front of us was this dumb yellow car that the owner had just parked on the road (we’re talking not even moving off to the side!!). When the truck started pulling the van they got really close to us and then stopped. We were afraid that they were going to hit us so Scott decided to move forward. By this time there were 2 inches of ice and then 4 inches of snow. When we started moving we started sliding. Scott was doing everything that he could to stop us, but he said that we were going to hit the yellow car. We suddenly stopped a little more than a foot away from the car. Scott said that we needed to trade places so he could go and ask the guys to help us. I told him that if he lifted up the brake that we would hit the car, so I decided to go and get help. I started walking down the hill and was doing just fine until I noticed that the men were getting in the cars to go down the hill. I yelled at them to wait a second and as I did my feet slid on the ice and I fell hard. The guys came over to make sure that I was okay and I asked if they could please help us. They told everyone else that was in line to stay where they were so we could go around everyone. Then I got in the car and as Scott lifted his foot off of the brake they pushed us away from the car. We then finally made it down the hill. It was amazing because during the time that all of that was going on our boys didn’t cry once or make a sound. I’m feeling better now, just a wee bit bruised and feeling lucky that we are all safe.
Visiting Santa
December 27, 2007 by Heidi in Family
Every year from the time I was born until I graduated from High School my mom made all of her kids go and sit on Santa’s lap. So for part of her present this year we thought that she would love an updated picture on Santa’s lap. The only problem - my brother. He hated getting his picture taken and won’t even take his 20 month old son to get his pictures done because he disliked doing it so much. So, we tricked him. He thought that we were meeting at the mall to do our Sub for Santa shopping and when he got there we were in line to get the picture done. After about 15 minutes of convincing him he agreed to get the picture done. My mom was so excited about it the next morning that she said she was going to leave it up all year long.
Making Cookies for Santa
December 27, 2007 by Heidi in Family
Every year Ben and I make cookies for Santa. This year Ben wanted to make trees for Santa, so while he was taking his nap I cut out and cooked the trees. (I learned last year that if we wanted it to resemble the shape that I needed to cut them and cook them.) When he woke up we went right to decorating. He iced the cookies and then put the sprinkles on. It was so much fun because as the sprinkles hit the tray he would laugh and laugh. Then we put them on “Santa’s plate” and set them out for Santa.
Gingerbread House
December 27, 2007 by Heidi in Family
I decided that this year Ben needed to have the experience of making a gingerbread house. So, I was going to make the house from scratch, but Scott out voted me and got a kit. I put the kit together while Ben was taking a nap one day and when he woke up we decorated the house. It was so much fun!! Ben would put candy on the house and then eat a candy and then put a candy on the house and then eat a candy. I’m thinking that it will be one of the things that we do every year!!
Decorating the Christmas Tree
December 27, 2007 by Heidi in Family
After our experience last year with Ben undecorating our Christmas tree I decided that this year Ben would have his own tree and Mommy and Daddy would have their own tree. So, Scott and Ben decorated his tree and then they decorated our tree. To our amazement all of our decorations stayed on our tree for the whole month!!
Problem or Blessing?
December 17, 2007 by Scott in Family, Work
Well, last Wednesday I was surprised to find out that I was being laid off from my job at NO MORE Mortgage. They no longer will be pursuing any Internet marketing due to the success of their national radio campaign. This presents a big problem, I no longer have an income. With two kids, a mortgage, car payments and other bills, I see this as a major set back. OR, could it be a great opportunity to find something better? As I have started my job search and have started sending out my resume to potential employers, I can’t help but think that this will actually turn out to be a blessing in our lives. There are many opportunities all over the United States for my line of work, Internet/Online Marketing.
Although I have been able to find some available jobs in Utah already, I’m asking all of you, my friends and family, to let me know if you know of any opportunities available at your place of work or elsewhere. We’d prefer to stay in Utah where we are, but if something here doesn’t work out in the next few weeks, I’ll have to start looking out of state. Thanks.
Family Pictures
December 1, 2007 by Heidi in Family
Because of the fun new addition to our family we needed new family pictures. I looked all over trying to find a place to go because the place we went to before has closed :(. After searching for about two weeks we found a place. So last night in the rain and snow (of course it hadn’t stormed for weeks and then it does the night I actually cared how my hair looked!!) we went and had out pictures taken.
We started with Tyler getting pictures in his blessing outfit. He even smiled for a few of the pictures.
Then Ben got his 2 year old pictures. The lady was so cute, she turned on music and had Ben dance around and got some super cute shots of him.
Then we got a family picture. It’s a new adventure when you are trying to get two kids to look at the camera. (Ben thought it was funny to pose and then right when someone went to take a picture run away).
Then we got some pictures of the boys together and I found out that Scott and Ben had some pictures taken while I was trying to get Tyler to stop screaming!! We then had some more pictures of Tyler in his cute outfit. Because we had time left Scott and I got our picture taken. (I think it’s been 3 years since we got a picture together.)
